Keeping a restaurant kitchen clean isn’t easy. Commercial kitchens are in high use every day, which can quickly make them dirty and unsanitary. Spills, stains, grease, grime and crumbs are all things you have to contend with.

However, it’s important to keep kitchens clean. Unsanitary kitchens can give people food poisoning, which is not good for business. It’s therefore best to keep restaurants kitchen clean, to reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses.

Kitchen staff use countertops all the time for food preparation. Therefore it’s a good idea to clean your countertops regularly – a couple of times a day should do it. Use a damp cloth and disinfectant spray to remove all the bacteria, spills and stains.

Exhaust hood and vents

If you use a deep fat fryer daily, then you’ll find that your exhaust hood quickly gets dirty with grease. This isn’t good as all the grease can restrict airflow through the exhaust hood. Try to clean your exhaust hood and vents every few months, taking special care to remove all the grease from the filters.

Floors and walls

Grease and food can easily get on your kitchen walls over time. Therefore it’s important to clean them regularly. Floors should be cleaned daily, first with a broom to sweep up pieces of food, and then with a mop. Walls can be cleaned less regularly, around every couple of weeks or so. Use a damp cloth and some cleaning solution to clean them.

Washing station

Your washing station is the place where you clean all your dishes and utensils. Therefore it’s fundamental to keep your washing station clean. It’s not difficult – all you need to do is spray your sink with a disinfectant and wipe it with a cloth. It’s also a good idea to use degreaser every couple of months to keep your drains and pipes unclogged.


The area where you store food can quickly become dirty with crumbs and other bits of food. Every few months, it’s therefore worth doing a deep clean of all your shelves. This means clearing the shelves and then wiping them with a cleaning solution and a cloth.

Other parts of the kitchen

We’ve only been able to cover a few parts of the kitchen in this post. However, the rest of your kitchen will also need regular cleaning too. This includes the fryers, oven, ranges, grills and fridges. All these appliances require special ways to clean them. If in doubt, consult the manual or ask the manufacturer.
