Carbon Reduction Plan
Commitment to Achieving Net Zero
Art Cleaning Services is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in compliance with PPN 06/21. Our Carbon Emissions in 2023 were measured in line with ghg Protocol and include the greenhouse gases stated in the Kyoto Protocol.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were measured prior to implementing reduction strategies.
Baseline Year: 2023 1/1/2023 -31/12/2023
Additional Details Relating to the Baseline Emissions Calculations:
- This is our first carbon footprint assessment.
- The baseline includes Scope 1 (direct emissions), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased electricity), and selected Scope 3 (business travel, fuel used by operatives, waste generated in operations) emissions.
Baseline Year Emissions: 2023 (1/1/2023 -31/12/2023)
Emissions | TOTAL (tCO2e) |
Scope 1 | 47.17 |
Scope 2 | 2.45 |
Scope 3 (Included Sources) | 0.93 |
Business travel 0.00 Employee commuting 0.31 Upstream transportation and distribution 0.01 Downstream transportation and distribution 0.01 Waste generated in operations 0.60
Total Emissions | 50.55 |
Baseline Year and Current Reporting Year
As 2023 is the first year we have measured our C02e emissions, the report for the Baseline Year and Current Reporting year contains the same figures. Therefore, the explanations that follow apply to both sets of data.
Scope 1 Emissions
Scope 1 is reported as 47.17 tCO2e in 2023 tracking the mileage travelled by our fleet. Art Cleaning Services do not have gas boilers, on site manufacturing or f-gases to report emissions on.
Scope 2 Emissions
Under Scope 2 we have measured the emissions released from the consumption of electricity in the office.
Scope 3 Emissions
Business Travel
The Business Travel Subset in Scope 3 is reported as 0 tCO2e in the Baseline Year/Reporting Year as Art Cleaning Services do not travel by Air, Rail, Bus, travel in rental cars or travel in employee-owned vehicles other than travelling in company owned/leased electric vehicles and commuting to and from work. All employee travel is reported in the Employee Commuting Subset of Scope 3.
Employee Commuting
The emissions resulting from employee commuting have been calculated at 0.41 tCO2e taking into account the distance travelled, mode of transport and average fuel consumption. This calculation accounts for the total commuting emissions generated by our employees and the corresponding greenhouse gas emissions associated with their transportation choices.
Upstream and Downstream Transportation
The emissions resulting from upstream and downstream transportation have been assessed and quantified at 0.02 tCO2e. This calculation considers the transportation activities involved in sourcing materials and delivering services, taking into account factors such as distance travelled, modes of transportation and fuel consumption. It accounts for the greenhouse gas emissions generated during both the upstream and downstream transportation process which contributes to our carbon footprint.
Waste Generation in Operations
We work closely with our current recycling and waste management provider to increase our recycling and reduce the level of general waste generated. We currently have a recycling rate of 38.6% and our emissions have been calculated at 0.60 tCO2e.
Current Emissions Reporting – (1/1/2023 -31/12/2023)
Emissions | TOTAL (tCO2e) |
Scope 1 | 47.17 |
Scope 2 | 2.45 |
Scope 3 (Included Sources) | 0.93 |
Business travel 0.00 Employee commuting 0.31 Upstream transportation and distribution 0.01 Downstream transportation and distribution 0.01 Waste generated in operations 0.60
Total Emissions | 50.55 |
Reporting Period
Art Cleaning Services will publish a Carbon Reduction Plan on a yearly basis detailing emissions released from UK Operations from 1st January to 31st December
Emissions Reduction Targets
To continue our progress to achieve Net Zero by 2040, we have set the following carbon reduction target. We project that our total carbon remissions will reduce over the next five years to 35.385 tCO2e, which is a reduction of 30% of our baseline by 2029.
Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following sustainable measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the commencement of the 2023 baseline
- Fuel-Efficient Vehicles: All our vans meet the Euro 6 emissions significantly reducing emissions. standards. Managers use electric vehicles for transportation.
- Reduce Environment and Transport Costs: The water purification system installed on our vans allows our cleaning teams to purify water directly from a mains water supply at home. This capability enables teams residing farther from our base to travel directly to job sites, eliminating the need to refill at our premises. This not only reduces travel time and fuel usage but also minimizes our environmental footprint.
- Water Conservation Techniques: We employ advanced water-saving technologies, including digital flow controls on our water-fed pole systems, to reduce water consumption. Our vans are equipped with state-of-the-art hot water systems, delivering superior cleaning results and enhancing our productivity. The use of hot water significantly cuts down cleaning times and reduces the overall amount of water needed, making our operations more efficient and eco-friendlier.
- Training on Sustainable Practices: We Provide regular training to employees on sustainable and environmentally friendly cleaning practices which are communicated through newsletters.
- Implemented a waste reduction and recycling scheme with a new recycling and waste provider whereby we segregate our waste and recycling.
- Local Environmental Initiatives: We support and participate in local environmental projects and tree-planting initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to the local community.
- Installation of LED sensor lights to the company location.
- Full implementation of a digital job management and CRM platform improving efficiencies and reduction in printing/ink and paper use which significantly reduces our carbon footprint
- Route Planning Software: The use of Eworks route planning software has been crucial in optimising our travel routes, significantly lowering fuel consumption and our impact on air quality, thereby reducing our carbon footprint. Additionally, being a local contractor allows us to benefit from shorter travel distances compared to some of our competitors, further enhancing our sustainability efforts.
To meet our targets, we are exploring the following initiatives:
To meet our targets, we are exploring the following initiatives:
- Energy Efficiency
- Regularly monitor the suitability of the latest electric or hybrid commercial vehicles coming to the market to upgrade our fleet.
- Research and explore the market for advances in energy-efficient equipment in our day-to-day operations.
- Renewable Energy
- Currently investigating the installation of solar panels on company premises and awaiting the outcome of a mini tender of four local providers
- Exploring a rainwater harvesting initiative to provide water for window cleaning services
- Employee Engagement
- Conduct regular training on energy efficiency and sustainable practices.
- Promote car sharing and cycle to work
- Monitoring and Reporting
- Annual tracking of emissions to measure progress.
- Review and update reduction strategies as needed.
